‘Canada cheated’: Trump’s reasoning for halting talks

by admin477351

“Canada cheated and got caught” was president Donald Trump’s reasoning for halting all trade negotiations with the US ally.

The president’s post on truth social was a reaction to an ad from Ontario. The ad used a 1987 clip of Ronald Reagan  criticizing tariffs.

Trump called the ad “fake” and “fraudulent,” and claimed it was an attempt to interfere with US supreme court hearings on his 35% tariffs on Canadian  goods.

The ad has also been criticized by the Ronald Reagan  Presidential Foundation for using “selective audio” to “misrepresent” the former president’s full speech.

The suspension of talks, confirmed by secretary of state Marco Rubio, escalates the trade war and jeopardizes a vital economic partnership.
