Trump vs. Alipov: A War of Words Over India’s Oil and Arms

by admin477351

A war of words has erupted between the US and Russia over India. Donald Trump claimed Prime Minister Modi “assured” him of a “big stop” to Russian oil imports, a trade the US has penalized with tariffs.

In a swift counter, Russia’s Ambassador Denis Alipov not only defended the oil trade as “beneficial” for India’s economy but also announced a major new arms deal.

Alipov reaffirmed the 60-year defense partnership, responsible for 70% of India’s hardware, and detailed a new push for joint production. The offer includes the Su-57 fighter, drones, and anti-drone systems.

India’s MEA has tried to stay above the fray, issuing a statement that its energy policy is guided by “national interest” and “consumer welfare.”

This leaves India in the middle, as Washington pressures it on trade while Moscow counters with offers of high-tech “full technology-sharing” in defense.
