Zelensky Criticizes Lack of Advance Warning from US on Russian Missile Strikes

by admin477351

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed concerns about a lack of advance warning from the United States and other partners regarding a Russian ballistic missile attack on Sunday night. Zelensky highlighted that this was the third recent incident in which Ukraine did not receive its usual early alerts about missile threats, a situation he finds troubling given the ongoing conflict with Russia.

While Zelensky questioned the reasons behind the missing intelligence, U.S. President Donald Trump dismissed claims of halted intelligence sharing, asserting that the United States continues to provide necessary intelligence to Ukraine. Despite this assurance, some Ukrainian officials suspect that intelligence sharing might have been intermittently restricted, allowing the initial wave of Russian attacks to occur without prior warning. They noted that intelligence support resumed before a second wave of strikes later that evening.

A U.S. Defense Department official maintained that there had been no change in the Pentagon’s policy on intelligence sharing with Ukraine. This reassurance comes amidst rising tensions between Zelensky and Trump over the ongoing war and efforts to find a resolution to the conflict.

The current dispute is part of a broader context of occasional disruptions in intelligence sharing between the United States and Ukraine. For instance, in March 2025, the U.S. temporarily suspended intelligence sharing following a tense meeting between President Trump, President Zelensky, and U.S. Vice President JD Vance. That suspension was subsequently lifted, but the incident highlights the delicate nature of intelligence cooperation between the two nations during this period of conflict.
