The White House confirmed that the meeting, which lasted over three hours, centered on concrete plans for advancing towards a possible resolution. Kremlin officials mentioned that various settlement ideas were discussed during the meeting; however, they noted that no significant breakthrough had been achieved. Putin emphasized the necessity of addressing the fundamental causes of the conflict and claimed that Russia is making battlefield gains. Concurrently, President Zelenskyy remarked that recent Russian strikes on Kyiv and the Boryspil international airport might be connected to the US envoys’ arrival and indicated that Ukraine would modify its military strategies in response to Russian aerial attacks.
The renewed diplomatic efforts by Washington come after previous attempts failed to secure a peace agreement. Ending the war has been a key foreign policy objective for President Donald Trump, who announced that Witkoff and Kushner are presenting a fresh proposal to resolve the conflict.
